Snowmen the movie "Sneak Peek"
I consider it an honor and priveledge to be a part of the homeschool.com Product Tester group. About 10 days ago, I was asked to partake in a "sneak peek" for the new movie "Snowmen" that's coming out on Friday and then blog about it.
Snowmen is a humorous and heartfelt coming-of-age story about three
unlikely heroes and the winter that changed their lives forever.
What will be your legacy? What will you build that lasts? Snowmen
prompts audiences of all ages to ask these life-defining questions,
while affirming that it's not what you do that matters so much as
how you do it.
My daughter watched it with me and we both liked it. We thought it was funny and very thought provoking. It's a movie that embodies family values and teaches strength of character.
There was 1 profanity part and I really wish it wasn't in there and could have been worked a different way.
There were MANY other great parts about the movie though that really speak loud and clear. Without giving too much of the movie away...it even has a bit of a "Salvation" type message going on in it too.
You can watch the preview here.
We would give it 4.75 out of 5 for family friendliness.
This review is my own, I received no compensation for it. We were allowed to view this movie for free for our personal review.

Going to Eckert's
This past week our homeschool group traveled across the river to the great state of Illinois and went apple & pumpkin picking at Eckert's Fun Farm.
We got ALOT of Golden Delicious apples...which is MY favorite!!!
Then we snagged ourselves a beautiful pumpkin...I told her she could get the biggest one she could carry...lucky for me it only cost $10!
It was a day filled with great friends, great ice cream (thanks to the online coupon:), and great fun!!!

Another year of school...
This is our 7th year homeschooling (counting Kindergarden :) and our FIRST year using Heart of Dakota (HOD). We are doing Resurrection to Reformation and I thought our day went pretty great! I kind of oversaw everything and was maybe a bit more involved than I should have been but it was our first day so I wanted to make sure we did it right.
Here's my cutie patutie on her first day of 6th grade...all happy and such! What a doll...God has blessed me so!

2011 / 2012 Curriculum
I've prayed about it and think we're suppose to switch curriculum this year...I have settled on the Heart of Dakota Resurrection to Reformation. It's a Christ centered curriculum and I'm super pumped about it. My dd is going into 6th grade and with Kindergarten this will be our 7th year of homeschooling. I pray it turns out to be a GREAT year!
We will be doing Rod & Staff's "Follow the Path" for our English...
(She should probably do R&S 6 but 1 level below grade level is normal with R&S when you haven't done any of their English before)
For Math we will be doing Teaching Textbooks AGAIN...year 3 for this one :)
We will also be doing Drawn Into the Heart of Reading...
And as if that's NOT enough...I'm hoping to throw in "Training Our Daughters to be Keepers at Home" 7 year curriculum (year 1)...
Praying this year will be what God would want it to be.

Being a Stay At Home Mom Missionary
The other day I happened upon a site that talked about being a "Stay at Home Missionary"(Reaching the World for Christ beginning in the home)...it really got me to thinking. I've been struggling these days/weeks/months with being home and with homeschooling. I love it and all but for some reason I've really been struggling with it all. I'm not sure what's going on.
A few months ago the Lord quickened my spirit and told me to "Stand Firm" in what he's called us to do...I guess he was forwarning me as he knew I was going to have these thoughts.
Last night at church, I sat in with the kids and listened to each of them talk about school and what they are doing and the classes they get to pick from for next year, etc...All I could think of is our daughter who doesn't do all of that school stuff but WHY in the world am I feeling that way...we have lots of opportunities and get to do all kinds of fun things too.
Why do I feel like this job that the Lord has given me isn't enough...I mean the God who created the entire universe has commanded me to stay at home and homeschool...why can't that be E N O U G H for me??? I know that I Know, that I KNOW this is where God wants me to be and this is what He wants me doing right now. There could be NO greater job as a mother that I could have besides doing this...it is true...I am a "Stay at Home Missionary"...these kids are my mission field. Loving them, spending time with them, sharing with them, ministering to them and teaching them should be my greatest joy!
Joyce's message this morning played right into what I'm going through so I thought I'd put it out there for anyone else who may be questioning...
Radical obedience = just start with the little things that God speaks to you.
Don't quit because things become difficult. Stick with something even when it's not comfortable for you. John 21:17-18 i'm being carried to where i do not want to go.
Do you love me? If you love me, you will obey me. God loves us and wants us to respond to whatever he wants us to do. God your will will be done and not mine, i set my mind that even if it's not comfortable, even if i have to suffer, i'm going to do it your way.
So many people pay the price of spiritual discomfort to have the comforts of the flesh or to have fleshly comfort.
There's nothing worse than going to bed at night knowing you did not obey God.
It's time to get radical in your obedience to God. Stop feeling sorry for yourself. It's time to stop looking around at others and being jealous at what they have got.
It's time to be obedient to God in whatever he has called you to.

All in a day of school...dry vacuum canning marshmallows
A few weeks ago I happened upon a steal of a deal at my local Goodwill...I LOVE it when that happens!
I snagged a deal on this handy little guy (in black)
picture borrowed from Amazon.com
(that I must confess I didn't have the SLIGHTEST idea what to do with until I hit some youtube videos)
Got him for $9.95...I know a steal of a deal when I see it!
I bought him for the vacuum part not so much the sealing part. I then purchased the jar attachments and hose so I could begin dry canning some goods that have been hanging out in bags for quite some time.
Hope you enjoy this fun little video of our marshmallow canning:
